As a part of the TODAY show’s “Together We Make Football” series that highlights inspiring football stories from around the US, NFL Films visited Broadway High School to feature BHS’s continued efforts to honor fallen soldiers and in particular its annual tribute to BHS’s United States Army Specialist Brian (Bucky) Anderson. Anderson was killed in action in 2010 when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) during a patrol outside Zah Khel, Afghanistan.
Anderson, a 2004 BHS graduate, was a two-time state wrestling champion and an All-District football player for BHS. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
See the NFL films/NBC video below that aired on Jan. 1, 2016 on the TODAY show featuring BHS Head Football Coach Brad Lutz, Bucky's mother, Margaret Anderson, and includes a surprise visit from NFL legendary quarterback Brett Favre.
Don't forget to tune into the Today Show on January 1st between 8:20am-9:00am to see their segment on Broadway High School. More info here.
As announced earlier, a film crew from NFL Films visited our school on October 29th and 30th to film our Soldier Tribute Game as a part of the Today Show feature, “Together We Make Football." Weeks later, NFL Films returned for two more days of filming around the school and community. This time, the crew included 5-time Emmy Award winner Digger O’Brien, who is a senior producer at NFL Films. After weeks of patiently waiting, we were recently notified that our featured story will air on the Today Show, on January 1st. The exact airtime isn't certain, but we anticipate the segment to air between 8:20am - 9:00am. This is an exciting time for our school and community, as the entire country will get an inside look at our soldier tributes and the story of Broadway’s own Army Spc. Brian “Bucky” Anderson. This has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our football team, school, and community. Make sure you watch the Today Show on January 1st so you can see how the Broadway High School football team honors our fallen heroes.
