This past weekend, the Broadway High School Debate team wrapped up its season with the VHSL State Championship Tournament held at Randolph-Macon College. At the first level of postseason competition, sophomore Leila Haimani placed third in Lincoln-Douglas debate to advance to the Super Regional tournament. At the Super Regional Tournament, Gabbie Garlock placed 2nd, and Caroline Carrier advanced to the State Debate Tournament.
Lastly, this past Saturday, with the final tournament of the year and culmination of our season at the VHSL State Debate Tournament... Senior and team captain, Gabbie Garlock, is the state runner-up in Student Congress Debate! Freshman debater Caroline Carrier was right behind her, placing 3rd. This is from a field of 24 debaters, from 8 different schools. These two outstanding students helped Broadway to a third-place overall finish for the state among 10 schools from all across the commonwealth.
Assistant Coach Abbey Coleman and Head Coach Steve O'Baugh could not be prouder of these three outstanding individuals for all they have accomplished this year. Thank you to the Broadway community for its support throughout the year, and we look forward to another great season starting in the fall.
